Crossover with the movie Donnie Darko
and the comic Johnny the Homicidal Maniac
This started as a simple sketch, but as I went on I realized more connections!
The person there is supposed to be Nny, which is supposed to be in the JtHM style but I failed just by giving him a NECK -.-
and anyway his position with the axe is based on the cover for the DD directors cut: [link]
-In Donnie Darko, Donnie used the axe to flood the school, and in JtHM we know Johnny would use it to kill people..
-Frank's head I referenced here: [link]
I added the arrow and the swirls to represent the doughboys because they are a lot like Frank. Frank manipulates Donnie into doing bad, such as flooding the school. Which is similar to how Eff manipulates Johnny into killing people. I thought D-boy could also connect there considering Frank sort of makes Donnie depressed... Like telling him the world will end. And D-boy makes Nny depressed all the time.
..Also, Frank is a bunny, and then there’s Nail-Bunny.
Although Nail-Bunny is the good one… when you think about it Frank turned out to be a “normal” person, and though his image to Donnie was evil, he was sort of helping him save the world, so Frank in a way was innocent and “good”?
And well Nail-Bunny is the good voice, that also comes off as creepy.
-28:06:42:12 (28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds)
Is the time Frank says the world will end.
Which I think is ironic since it’s close to Halloween in the movie...
-“Fear” and “Love” are symbols in Donnie Darko. Fear being the bad side of people, and Love being the good side…
-In DD, the word Cellar Door is said to be one of the most beautiful words pronounced phonetically in the english language. I liked including that since Nny is very smart and, I don’t know it seems like something he might appreciate..?
-There’s a timer because DD has a lot to do with time, and well Shmee’s in there….. Because he just is. He’s another manipulating voice (that tries to make Squee burns things down… O_O which you know the connection to that if you’ve seen DD.)
-They both have symptoms of schizophrenia, Donnie’s actually said to have schizophrenia which he takes medication for. Johnny’s either totally insane or the only sane one, how I like to think for Donnie as well. You don’t know for sure if they’re really the “crazy” ones, or if everyone else is crazy.
-Love falters in both, which is why there is a broken heart.
Donnie DOES get the girl, but she is killed in the process.
Nny doesn’t get Devi, and is killed himself in the process!!! (ironically BY Devi too)
-I thought old looking paper would be nice for the background because it reminds me of the pages in Roberta Sparrow’s book…
-Hehe and his shirt says fuckass. It’s originally from Donnie Darko, not Homestuck xP
Hmm before I go on, although I already said a lot, of you haven’t seen Donnie Darko I really recommend it, especially if you’re a JtHM fan!

Now is it a coincidence both have the “manipulated living and dead”?
Which is from the fictional book in the movie “The Philosophy of Time Travel” [link]“If a Tangent Universe occurs, it will be highly unstable, sustaining itself for no longer than several weeks.
Eventually it will collapse upon itself, forming a black hole within the Primary Universe capable of destroying all existence.”
This reminds me of the monster in the wall..
Johnny had to keep it stable, by feeding it blood, in which when he stopped it escaped and destroyed everything.
“The manipulated dead” in JtHM are the characters such as Tess and Krik (okay maybe not Krik) that come back from being killed supposedly.
If most of the strips are in order that is, I think Tess did come back since she is referred to by Anne Gwish in another panel…
-Johnny himself also comes back from death, and Donnie avoids death in the very beginning.
-I find ironic, or maybe just coincidental, in DD throughout the whole movie there is the warning that the world will end, and the universe will dissolve.
Donnie dying stopped this from happening, and Johnny returning seemed to bring back the universe…
It’s not all that clear in JtHM what really happened with that, but I still find the connection interesting.
their names rhyme!
